Good because Artest is an upgrade over Ariza (especially defensively), & it means Odom & Brown will both be back. Bad because I've hated Artest since his days in Indiana, with his personality issues with teammates & coaches. However, in this case, l have faith in Phil. l think if he could deal with Dennis Rodman, he can certainly handle Ron Artest. And there r complaints that Artest wo not fit with team chemistry/the triangle offense, but consider this:

1. Artest certainly could've gotten a bigger contract than the midlevel exception he is getting from the Lakers, so winning is the priority here; his own agent said ''he wants to win a ring.''
2. In Houston people maligned him for taking too many shots, even though he was one of their top offensive options, even with both T-Mac & Yao on the floor. With them gone, he was absolutely the first option. Do u think he will be with Kobe on the floor, or Gasol, or even (a hopefully improved) Bynum?
3. Artest is a smart player. He will be willing to learn the triangle offense & fit in with it. And when it breaks down like it did on multiple occasions in the playoffs, he will fit in then too.
4. l am more concerned with defense than offense (a cliche, l know, but true nonetheless) & Artest is one of the best defenders in the league, regardless of position. And in the playoffs, l know that will come in handy matched up against LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Richard Jefferson, and/or Paul Pierce.
5. In light of the recent major trades-Shaq to Cleveland (though l do not think that does much for them, but it will be interesting to see), Jefferson to the Spurs, VC to the Magic (though l do not know if it was worth losing Alston, Lee, Turkoglu, & now Gortat) & (probably) Sheed to the Celtics-it was an upgrade the Lakers needed.

Overall, with some slight reservations, l vote it an excellent move for the Lakers.
